Introduction

The Complete Seat Design Engineer will lead and execute design, development, and release activities for automotive seating systems — from concept through production release. This role requires deep technical expertise in complete seat packaging, structures, plastics, and trim interfaces, , comfort studies, ensuring products meet customer, regulatory, safety, comfort, packaging, cost, and manufacturing requirements. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers throughout the vehicle program lifecycle.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Design & Development

  • Lead design and development of complete seating systems including seat structures, mechanisms, foam, covers, trim and related components.
  • Hand-on knowledge to integrate  ECE and FMVSS regulations. ( dimensional, static and dynamic requirements.)
  • Translate customer requirements, regulatory standards, and vehicle packaging into robust and manufacturing feasible CAD designs.
  • H-point & layout packaging and trim development in-depth understanding. Create, validate, and release 3D CAD models of Foam-pad, Plastics, Harness , trim attachment and various interface feature mountings and 2D drawings including GD&T for parts, sub-assemblies, and complete seat layouts.
  • Conduct tolerance stack-ups and feasibility studies to ensure proper vehicle integration and assembly.
  • Integrate seat functional features (e.g., recline, adjusters, sliders) with structural and comfort considerations.

Packaging & Integration

  • Perform complete seat packaging studies to meet vehicle interior space, safety, and ergonomic requirements.
  • Collaborate with vehicle interior engineers for H-point, various kinematics range, and mounting interface design.

Validation & Design Release

  • Support prototype builds, physical testing, functional validation, and correlation with CAE results.
  • Validation Physical test setup understanding & approval. Pre-test , Post test assessment and evalutiona.
  • Develop and maintain DFMEA, DVP&R, design change documentation (ECNs/ECMs), and release deliverables.
  • Ensure designs comply with safety and regulatory standards including FMVSS, ECE, ISO and other applicable automotive requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with CAE, group engineering, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and program teams to drive timely delivery and resolution of design issues.
  • Coordinate with suppliers for design reviews, prototype parts, tooling readiness, and component quality.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and recommend design improvements for cost, performance, weight, and manufacturing feasibility.
  • Stay current with industry trends, materials, processes, and seating technologies to innovate seating solutions.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • Typically 3–10+ years of automotive seating design experience, preferably with Tier-1 suppliers or OEM programs.

Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency in CAD tools such as CATIA V5/V6, NX, or 3DExperience for parts and assemblies.
  • Experience with GD&T, tolerance analysis, DFM/DFA principles, DFMEA, and APQP processes.
  • Understanding of automotive seating manufacturing such as stamping, welding, plastic injection, and PU foaming processes
  • Experience in CAE correlation, simulation interpretation, and physical testing support.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork capabilities.
  • Excellent project coordination and documentation skills, with attention to quality and deadlines.

Working Conditions

  • Office and prototype development environment with periodic visits to manufacturing or supplier facilities.
