Introduction

Responsible for the design, development, and validation of polyurethane (PU) foam-pads for automotive seating systems, ensuring optimal comfort, durability, safety, and manufacturability. The role requires deep expertise in PU material properties, molding processes, thickness optimization, and seating ergonomics, working closely with design, trim, and production teams.

Job Description

Develop PU foampad 3D model for Automotive seating cushions, backrests, and armrests based on comfort, ergonomics, packaging and safety requirements.
Knowledge of overbuild, under build based on Trim profiles
Define thickness, contour, and firmness requirements for different seating applications.
Foam-pad hardness measurement method and curve understanding
Knowledge of PUR material based on hardness and profile requirement to meet trim profile.
Joining methods understanding between foampad and Fabric, leather cover.
Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams on molding processes, tooling, and manufacturing feasibility.
Perform comfort studies, durability analysis, and prototype evaluations to validate design effectiveness.
Support DFMEA, design guidelines, and production readiness activities related to foam-pads.
Stay updated on PU material innovations, industry trends, and advanced foaming technologies.
Proficient in 3D surface modelling based on foam-pad requirements.

Key Roles and responsibilites

Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, Polymer/Materials Engineering, or related field.
Strong understanding of PU materials, molding processes, and foampad performance criteria.
Experience in comfort assessment, thickness optimization, and seating ergonomics.
Knowledge of automotive seating standards, DFMEA, and prototype validation.
Proficiency in CAD tools (CATIA, NX) and simulation tools for comfort or durability is a plus.
Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
